Years ago, I couldn’t even spell Ontrapernur let alone understand what such an individual actually did!

By the early 20th century entrepreneur appears to have taken on the connotation of go-getter when applied to an independent business owner, a quality that may also be found in the phrase entrepreneurial spirit, which began being used at about the same time. [Source – Merriam Webster Dictionary]

The relevance to today’s business environment is quite simply that every small business owner has a degree of entrepreneurial spirit – a go getter, an ideas person motivated by results, success and the resulting revenue growth and in turn wealth.

As the world has become more of a village with the advent of sophisticated communications and information technologies, it is now easier than ever to create the perception that your small business is much bigger than it really is in a physical or headcount sense, and it is becoming the norm that you are almost a virtual business working out of a virtual office with the majority of your key business functions outsourced to others – IT, SEO, Social Media Management, Accounting and HR, and the latest trend – outsourcing your Business Development and On boarding processes.

So the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well, and if you believe in yourself, and surround yourself with key people that share your vision, there is no barrier to Thinking Big. Sure, it may seem risky and bold, but the alternative is to peddle along doing the same old stuff hoping for a better result next quarter.

So if you don’t think it can be done, make way for those who are doing it and best you start thinking big, otherwise it just may be that you perish in their wake.

I would be most interested to hear what you think about this topic!
